FAQs

The Hangout for the Homeless team is here to help! If you have a question that is not answered below, please email us  hello@kip.org.au.

WHAT IS HANGOUT FOR THE HOMELESS?

Hangout for the Homeless is a night where we ask kids and families to sleep rough. Sleep rough for this event means no sleeping in a bed! Participants can be as adventurous and creative as they feel… Perhaps a tent in the backyard or some cardboard on the floor… all we ask is that people get into the spirit of things and raise awareness and funds for the children and families who do not have a safe and secure place to sleep at night.

HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO TAKE PART?

Registration to sleep rough costs $5 per person, and tickets to volunteer at Hangout Hands On are $15 per person. Due to COVID19, KiP is only running the sleep rough component this year.

ARE THERE ANY RULES?

Yes – no sleeping in a bed! We also encourage a basic meal – some cheap & cheerful recipes can be found on our ‘on the night‘ page.

CAN WE SLEEP OUT TOGETHER?

This year, unfortunately not.  Due to COVID19, only people who live in the same house can do the sleep out together. We encourage you to still create teams and share lots of photos and video footage.

IS FUNDRAISING COMPULSORY?

Upon signing up for the event, participants create a personal fundraising page which can be used to inspire supporters and collect secure donations. We ask all of our sleepers to actively fundraise as part of their participation, although this is not compulsory, and there is no fundraising minimum.

I DON’T LIVE IN VICTORIA, CAN I STILL SIGN UP?

Absolutely! This is a national campaign and we would love to have sleepers from all over Australia sleeping rough for Hangout for the Homeless. Kids Under Cover have a presence in VIC, ACT and NSW.

CAN I DONATE TO A CHARITY OF MY CHOICE?

No. All monies raised will be given to a designated cause carefully selected by the KiP team.

WHERE DOES HANGOUT FOR THE HOMELESS MONEY GO?

In 2020, KiP will be supporting Kids Under Cover. To read more about the amazing work they do, click here.
